Over time your soil becomes compacted making it difficult for your grass to develop a good root system. Core aeration pokes a series of shallow holes in the lawn which helps break up the compacted soil allowing water to more easily reach the root system and makes it easier for the grass to develop its root system. Core aeration is typically done in the Spring or Fall when the ground is not too hard. The plugs are pushed out of the tines and deposited back on the ground to break down naturally. Core aeration is good to do just before over seeding so some of the seeds can fall down into the holes and have a better chance of germinating. Home owners would be required to mark any underground items that might be damaged by the core aerator. Usually the shallowest and most likely to be damaged is an "Invisible Fence". Island Mowing is not responsible for damage to unmarked or mismarked underground items. The core aerator only penetrates the ground 2 to 3 inches so most objects are deep enough to be unharmed by core aerating.
